Lifeguard in Queensland

Well after finishing my contract with GBRMPA I have been investigating the next move jobwise up here. There are a few possibilities on the cards and I'm currently unsure as to what to do.

However in the mean time I heard that they needed lifeguards so I sat the fitness tests and passed. So I've qualified to become a lifeguard in Queensland! Anyway it's a great opportunity to get some of my quals and skills up (not in regards to waves unfortunately but there's plenty of other aspects to work on especially given the once again new recuss protcol introduced).

Go Troppo!

Well we had the Townsville Triathlon last Sunday which was heaps of fun! There were people I knew from Road Runners, Tobruk Pool swim squads, sailing, uni and GBRMPA so it was an awesome morning and I even came 2nd in my age group category and 4th female overall (not that hard in Townville with the limited number of people into triathlons as a sport).

My tri friend Gill and some friends from GBRMPA had a BBQ brunch on the Strand afterwards which was really nice. She even brought three single guys along for me to pick from - all a bit of fun!

Worship on the hill.....Townsville style

It was like turning back the clock about 10 years! After church we all went drove up to the top of Castle Hill where the look out is and climbed up onto of the cyclone shelter. It was so beautiful overlooking all the city lights, Maggie Island and under a clear star-filled sky. One of the guys had his guitar and another guy even had a hand held accordian! Anyway so a huge buch of us, 15 at least, all sung under the stars. Was so special as I'd missed that so much.

(This is the view but looks more amazing at night and you can't see Maggie Island in this pic).

Steve Irwin dead

I am currently sitting at the desk of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's Sharks and Rays expert while he is away on vacation and at a conference in Tasmania.......and well the whole place is buzzing with the news of Steve Irwin's death from a sting ray. No one can quite believe that a sting ray would kill someone. I just hope I don't have to answer any phone calls!!!
